about

I would like to first dedicate this record to all of my fans, who reached into their pockets, and contributed their hard earned money to make The Boulevard happen. You all truly humbled and me with your generosity and undying support. You also inspired me… to completely throw my heart and soul into this record for you. I gave this everything I had. I hope you grow to love it as much as Bryan and I loved making it. Thank you for giving me the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to record a record the way I have always wanted. On my terms.

This record was almost completely recorded in a beautiful cabin on the shores of Lake Huron. On that note, I’d like to also dedicate this record to The Millerschins, who let us turn their beach house into a cabin of madness for a month. Thank you for giving me the space to fulfill a long time artistic dream. Bells Up!

Snowed in by the Polar Vortex, Bryan Reilly and I worked side by side on every aspect of this record. Bryan Literally played almost everything you hear on this recording. Besides some fantastic keys by Mike Lynch, Steve "Booster" Mostyn, and Chris Codish, and one or two claps or guitar tracks, Bryan essentially performed all music. Jackson Smith did play the banjo in Love and Hate. We had some great vocal performances from Gia Warner and Herschel Boone on Backslidin’ and Love and Hate. Other than that, I sang all vocals on the record, lead and back-up. The beauty of being locked up in the cabin was that we were able to spend a tremendous amount of time making this record exactly how we wanted it. Nothing is done by mistake. If you think you hear it, you probably do. We had a great time trying different sounds and grooves, and when we were finished, I am confident that you got the very best album we could make. It is full of heart, love, blood, iron and rust. It’s full of snow and ice. It is truly a Ty Stone record in the sense that it represents every phase of my career, and every influence that has touched me artistically over the years.

We mixed the record at RMS studios in Birmingham, MI. It has truly been a fortunate experience becoming associated with such an incredible studio, and no less incredible is the owner, Randy Stephenson. He is a man that cares about music, and artists, and has assembled some of the most incredible gear in Michigan. He’s and honest man with a giant heart. Thanks for letting me hang around your studio and work over the past few years man. It is the creative time I spend working at RMS that really allowed us to find our groove and sound for this record. Your studio is world-class and so are you man. Thanks.

This record is truly a product of Bryan Reilly. This is actually the third record we’ve made in the last few years, two of which you will likely never hear. He has been working with me for years, and has honestly become a conduit for my music and art. He has a knack for understanding my ideas and intentions and then executing them in a generally flawless way. More than that, Bryan created and influenced many of the sounds on here, and together we developed a sound that is old and new, sharp and dull, slow, low, and steady fo sho. He not only produced and engineered everything with me, but he also played almost EVERY SINGLE INSTRUMENT on the record. He is one of the most talented people I’ve ever met as a producer and as a musician, and he does BOTH! As much credit as I would like to take for the sound of The Boulevard, Bryan deserves just as much credit if not more. We’ve been working on this for a long-long time, for nothing but the love of doing it, and the hope that people will love what we do. Thanks, Bryan, for helping me remember how to bring the best out of my music and myself. You’re a great producer, musician and friend.

Beyond the sound, this is a record of songwriting. I put every word and phrase where it is for a reason, so I hope you dig in and that my words connect with you somehow. It is the truth. That being said, this record is also dedicated to my beautiful wife, Valerie. She has been my muse for as long as I can remember, and once again, without her presence, The Boulevard would be empty and passionless. Thank you for being cool enough to let me use our life for the art that I make. People just never feel your music if it isn’t real, and the true love that I have always had for you is the realest thing I have ever felt. Thanks for always encouraging me, and reminding me of who I am when I forget. The Boulevard is our true and beautiful story. It is my gift to you. An album full of pictures of us that I made for you.

Thanks to my family and friends who provide all of my strength and stability. And I have to thank the Good Lord once again for always providing me the things I need, and helping me to find the path that I ought to be on. Please remember that you are right where you’re supposed to be at this moment. We don’t always understand why when we’re in the midst of life’s turmoil, but the lord has a plan for your life, and just having real faith in that can truly begin to lighten each of your burdens.

God Bless!
